Climate & Thermostat
The main thermostat is in the first-floor hallway beside the hall bathroom. For comfort and efficiency, please keep it between 68–72°F in colder months and 72–76°F in warmer months. Rooms with mini splits have their own remotes (see Remotes below).
Fireplace
The gas fireplace has a pilot light that we maintain during the cooler months, so operation is simple:
-
Turn the control knob to ON — the flames will light from the pilot.
-
Adjust the flame height using the HI/LO knob.
-
Flip the blower switch to circulate warm air into the room.
-
Turn the knob back to OFF when you’re finished.
Please never leave the fireplace running unattended or overnight. If it won’t light or you ever smell gas, do not attempt to use the igniter — turn the knob to OFF and contact your host right away.
Remotes
Each room has a remote holder mounted near the light switch — that’s home base for the fan, TV, and mini split remotes. Please return them to the holder so they’re easy to find for the rest of your stay (and the next guests).
Coffee Bar
The kitchen features a coffee bar with a Keurig K-Duo (Gen 2) that brews single cups and full carafes. K-pods and shelf-stable creamer are provided at the station. For the carafe side, filters are provided — just bring your own ground coffee.
Kitchen
The kitchen is fully stocked with cookware, dishes, and utensils — including grill tools and wood pellets — plus a small collection of seasonings to get your cooking started.
-
Gas stove tip — if a burner won’t light, check that the black burner plate is seated correctly on the eye — that fixes it nearly every time.
-
Under the kitchen sink — dishwasher tabs, trash bags, paper towels, cleaning supplies, and a fire extinguisher.
Pellet Grill (Traeger Pro 22)
Complimentary wood pellets are provided, and grill tools are in the kitchen. The Traeger is electric-fed — pellets only, never charcoal or lighter fluid.
-
Start up — check the hopper has pellets, plug in and switch on, then with the lid open set the dial to SMOKE. In 4–5 minutes you’ll hear the fire roar and see smoke — close the lid and set your temperature.
-
Preheat — give it 10–15 minutes to reach temperature before cooking.
-
Shut down — this is the important one — turn the dial to SHUTDOWN CYCLE and leave the grill plugged in and running. The fan needs about 10 minutes to burn out the fire pot. Never switch it off or unplug it while hot.

Arrival & Parking
Check-In
Check-in opens at 4:00 PM — that’s when the home is fully prepared for you. Early arrivals can’t be guaranteed, but the resort and nearby attractions are great ways to spend the wait. No gate pass is needed — you can drive straight to the home.
Getting In
The home uses a smart lock. We’ll send your personal entry code through your booking app (i.e., Airbnb/VRBO) within 15 minutes of your arrival time. If you haven’t received your code or it isn’t working, message us through the app and we’ll get you in right away.
Parking
-
Driveway — your primary parking. Please use it first.
-
Street parking — permitted only if all four tires are completely off the paved street surface.
-
Overflow — use the MPOA Pool Parking Lot (far end) or Hopkins Park Parking Lot.
-
EV charging — charging from the home’s outlets isn’t permitted — household circuits aren’t rated for it. Public chargers are available in Harrisonburg, about 20 minutes away.
Please never block driveways, fire hydrants, or emergency access routes.
Winter Travel
Mountain roads here can be steep and snow-covered in winter. During winter weather, AWD/4WD (or chains) is strongly recommended, and please allow extra time — snow removal on resort roads isn’t always immediate.
Cell Service
Cell coverage can be spotty on the mountain depending on your carrier. Enable Wi-Fi calling on your phone and you’ll be all set — the home’s high-speed Wi-Fi has you covered.
Safety & Emergency Information
In any life-threatening emergency, call 911 first, then notify your host once you’re safe.
Emergency Address
304 Turkey Dr, McGaheysville, VA 22840 — responders will ask for this, and it’s easy to forget on vacation.
Security Cameras
For everyone’s safety, exterior security cameras monitor the outside of the property, as disclosed in your rental agreement. There are no cameras inside the home.
Fire Extinguishers & Fire Blankets
Fire extinguishers are located under the kitchen sink. A fire blanket hangs on the kitchen wall adjacent to the oven — for stovetop or grease fires, the blanket is the safer first move (never use water on a grease fire).
Breaker Box
If the power trips, the electrical panel is located downstairs in the basement closet, next to the bathroom. Flip the tripped breaker fully off, then back on. We kindly ask that you only use the breaker box if absolutely necessary.

Insider Tips
For your Stay
-
Stop at Food Lion on your way in — there’s a Food Lion in Elkton — it’s right on your route and saves a separate trip once you’ve settled in. Stock up on groceries, drinks, and anything you need before you hit the mountain.
-
Schedule a Walmart delivery — if you’d rather skip the store run entirely, schedule a Walmart grocery delivery timed to arrive around check-in. Neighborhood Walmart delivers to the resort — set it up the night before your trip.
-
Fire up the Traeger before you’re hungry — the pellet grill takes about 15 minutes to preheat. Start it earlier than you think you need to — low and slow is worth the wait.
To Enjoy your Trip
-
Book the spa at least 48 hours in advance — the resort spa fills up fast, especially on weekends. If a massage or facial is on the agenda, get it on the books before you arrive.
- Book Massanutten WaterPark tickets at least 72 hours out — the WaterPark sells out regularly, especially on summer weekends and holidays. Don’t wait until you’rehere — book online before you leave home.
